Three Women

Janice keeps her room immaculate and pleasing to the eye
More frequently these days, she notes
She stops to ask herself the reason why
With no makeup may she hide her lack of beauty
I dreamed of princes long ago she thinks
But now a man you know is just as much a fairy tale to me
God bless you Janice, God speed the struggle of a woman

Susan soothes the broken-hearted lovers every night from nine till one
With a voice so full of promise
She’s the star they wish upon but can’t become
And in his mind he takes her out for dinner
Rehearses all the lines he’ll cast to win her
But in the end the things he loves in her are what he’s jealous of
And he’s gone when he discovers he can’t change her
God bless you Susan, God speed the struggle of a woman

Men make love to Marilyn a hundred times a day or so it seems
Through no fault in either’s character
Such is just the nature of our dreams
No man looks upon her form without believing
That a moment in her world is what he’s needing
He’s lost his frame of reference, sends her gifts and compliments
Denies the beast he sees himself revealing
God bless you Marilyn, God speed the struggle of a woman

The gaze in her reflection in the mirror
Has launched a thousand lies designed to steer her
Into hands that will caress and empty words of love professed
From lips that kiss but in the end reject her
God bless you Marilyn, God speed the struggle of a woman
